Academy of Motion Pictures Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron completes a fifteen-year-old-dream to create his vision for a bigger-than-life sci-fi adventure pushing the envelope with the latest cinematic technology known to man in AVATAR. The digital 3D capability system developed by Cameron himself along with co-developer and partner Vince Pace was just the tip of the iceberg of systems used to create a civilization so remarkable, so beautiful that the film fan would not dare take a potty break. “I wanted to create a familiar type of adventure in an unfamiliar environment, “ Cameron explains, “by setting the classic tale of a newcomer to a foreign land and culture on an alien planet.” Mission accomplished!
Former U.S. Military man, confined to a wheelchair, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is recruited to be a guinea pig to participate in a special top-secret military program his scientist twin brother was working on before he unexpectedly died. Jake, a hard core Marine, would do anything to support his country and is elated to be recruited by the scientific research program called Avatar because they need Jake’s DNA, similar to his brother’s, to further the program that connects them to the Na’vi people and the studies from the world of Pandora.
Pandora’s atmosphere is deadly to humans without sufficient oxygen, so a human outpost resides on Pandora for a closer work station that allows connection to the strange body aliens. The scientists created the Avatar system, in which a human body is sent by using the mind to have their human consciousness linked to an avatar, a remotely-controlled biological body that can survive in the lethal air. These avatars are genetically engineered hybrids of human DNA mixed with DNA from the natives of Pandora…known as the Na’vi.
The studies founded by Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) bring the scientists closer to understanding the indigenous people group in order to learn from their way of existence hoping to one day to co-habitat. The military makes it clear that they aid the scientific program for greed and control. Ultimately, answer to a higher power of greed while they assist a private corporation who is mining a rare mineral that is the key to solving the Earth’s energy crisis. Billions of dollars are at stake when the location of the mineral core is found. For the time being, the two U.S. groups are congenital and can not survive without the other to get their results.
The lab-scheduled travels from the human world to Pandora’s increase over time making it more difficult for Jake to leave Pandora. He has fallen in love with an unimaginable civilization. Jake has won the hearts of the Na’vi by learning their world and is once again known as a strong and faithful warrior. The human operation nears closure and Jake is torn between choosing the mission of his calling against an instinctive code to uphold honor and dignity to do what is right. His crossing is his choice of destiny.
