Movie Posters in Berlin - an Exhibition

In 30 years, between the 1960s and 1990s, the designer couple Margrit and Peter Sickert created over 300 film posters. Amongst their art works are posters for films by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Alexander Kluge and Wim Wenders who were very influential in the newly developing industry after World War II. These cinema posters contributed in giving the New German Cinema a public face.

During the Berlinale 2015 a selection of these impressive posters were exhibited at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. At the opening of the exhibition  festival director Dieter Kosslick said,“For decades, the first visual impression of a new film was the poster. It sparks emotions, expectations, and suspense“.

The Sickerts also created cinema posters for international directors like Martin Scorsese, Ettore Scola and William Friedkin, which could be admired in Berlin.
