Since 1968, the Kirschenblütenfest has been celebrated in Hamburg. The cherry blossom is an important symbol for the Japanese because it symbolizes the beginning of spring, transcience, awakening and the fragile beauty of women. In the 1960's, the Japanese community of Hamburg donated approximately 2,000 cherry trees that were planted throughout Hamburg. This celebration involves Japanese cultural demonstrations such as drumming, fighting techniques and dancing. We will meet at 5pm to experience this event together. The night ends with a firework show around 10:30pm. You may want to bring a blanket and a picnic. There's also Japanese food for purchase. Look for the evite for more information. |
