The FBI is unable to find a missing agent. A pedophile priest (Billy Connolly), who believes God sends him visions, says the agent is still alive. He leads the FBI to human remains (not the agent's), buried deeply in the snow and ice of the Virginia winter. At first, the connection to the missing agent remains unclear. Also, where did the priest get his information? Is he really a psychic or rather a suspect? In this situation, the FBI needs the help of ex-agents Dr. Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) who are experts for the supernatural. As the case evolves into a nightmarish experience, Scully and Mulder realize they cannot escape what they call "the darkness" of their FBI work.
I Want To Believe is the second movie based on the award-winning television series The X Files (1993-2002) which combines mystery, science fiction and horror elements. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny reprise their roles as Dana Scully and Fox Mulder. Directed and co-written by the creator of the series, Chris Carter, it is a well-made, suspenseful thriller almost free of supernatural elements. However, when the case was finally solved, I was not impressed with the conclusion. This is a film for people who like dark thrillers and for those suffering from Mulder-and-Scully withdrawal symptoms. Written by Frank Spotnitz and Chris Carter, it also stars Amanda Peet.
