Starts July 29
Directed, written and produced by Christopher Nolan (Dark Knight, Insomnia), Inception stars Leonardo di Caprio (Shutter Island, Blood Diamond), Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Letters From Iwo Jima), Ellen Page (Juno) and many more.
Stephen King suggests that one way to start writing a story is to ask a 'What if...' question. Inception attempts to answer the intriguing question 'What if we could get into other people's dreams, steal their ideas, or plant new ones in their subconscious?'
Dom Cobb (di Caprio) is a thief who specialises in stealing information out of people's minds whilst they're sleeping – and he's in high demand. One day, a high-profile business man, Saito (Watanabe) asks Cobb to insert a new idea into the mind of his main competitor. The procedure, known as 'inception', is much more complex than simple theft, demanding dreams within dreams within dreams. Cobb is reluctant to accept the assignment, but Saito manages to overcome his resistance, by promising that he'll arrange to have Cobb's name cleared of the murder charge that has kept him out of the US and away from his young children for too long. Among Cobb's team is his long-time collaborator, Arthur (Joseph Gordron-Levitt), and Ariadne (Page), a young architect specialising in the intricate dream structures needed to create dream worlds that can be manipulated. Their expertise is about to be put to the ultimate test...
The concept behind Inception opens up a complex maze of possibilities and brain twisters; and the movie does a great job at realising a story that actually holds together. The effects are amazing, the cast are excellent at making the whole package credible, and viewers who enjoy this kind of subject matter and can keep hold of the multiple threads are bound to want to watch it more than once.
