Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios, bring us a lively caper, based loosely on the Grimm Brothers fairytale, Rapunzel. Directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, it enjoys the vocal talents of Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi and Donna Murphy.
Stolen from her crib because of the magical powers of her golden hair, Rapunzel (Moore) spends her life at the top of a tall tower, which she is forbidden to leave. Her only companion is Mother Gothel (Murphy). Every year on her birthday, Rapunzel watches magical lights floating mysteriously into the distant sky, and this year, as she is going to turn 18, she has adamantly decided she wants to go and see what they are. Opportunity presents itself when the charming thief and rogue, Flynn Rider (Levi), climbs up the tower to escape from guards after stealing a valuable tiara from the royal palace. Encouraged by her pet chameleon Pascal, the delightfully naïve and courageous Rapunzel makes a deal with Flynn, and the two set off on a wild adventure, pursued by thugs, guards, the vengeful Mother Gothel, and a determined horse named Maximus. The journey of our two heroes brings rapprochement, self-awareness and the discovery of lost identity.
With great music by Academy Award© winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Tony and Grammy nominee Glenn Slater, a fun screenplay by Dan Fogelman, and Glen Keane supervising the animation, the perfect ingredients are in place for wonderful family entertainment.
