Starts January 27
The long-expected sequel to the groundbreaking film Tron is finally here - 28 years after brilliant computer programmer Flynn (Jeff Bridges) was taken to a digital world, forced to fight as a digital gladiator, and eventually rescued. So what’s new? Apart from 3D and a really good score (by Daft Punk), not much. Flynn - a little older now, just like Jeff Bridges - is trapped in the digital world again. The digital world is ruled by an evil program. Flynn’s son Sam (Garrett Hedlund), searching for Flynn, has to fight for his life in the Games. The evil program doesn’t think highly of human “users” and wants to conquer and “improve” our world.
While the visuals were interesting in the beginning, once I got used to the visual effects, I found myself waiting for exciting action, a surprising plot twist, anything to make this two-hour movie more entertaining. Let’s just say, it was nice to see Jeff Bridges reprise his role as Flynn, and the soundtrack also helped. TRON: Legacy is nominated for one Oscar (Sound Editing) as well as several other awards. Daft Punk won the Austin Film Critics Award (Best Original Score) for his score for TRON:Legacy.
