Denzel Washington (Training Day, Inside Man) and Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern, Buried) star in a thriller directed by Daniel Espinosa (Easy Money), with a screenplay by David Guggenheim.
Young agent Matt Weston (Reynolds) is tasked with the boring job of maintaining a CIA Safe House in Cape Town, South Africa. Itching for action, he soon gets more than he ever dreamed of. Tobin Frost (Washington) is a renegade CIA agent accused of selling secrets to enemy nations. In the process of handling a very lucrative deal, an all-out attack from a hit squad leaves him no alternative but to seek refuge at the US Consulate. He is immediately transferred to the safe house for questioning, but, within minutes of the arrival of the extraction team, the house proves to be anything but safe. Weston just manages to escape, with Frost as his prisoner: the race is on...
The film has no story line of any originality or interest, and leaves behind an impression of non-stop violence, pretty much from beginning to end. Action movie fans may enjoy it for the extreme car chases, but that's about it. In my opinion Reynolds does not convince as a CIA agent – even if a rookie.
