Director Leterrier’s supersonic thriller based on magic delivers a visual feast, imagine a contemporary electronic version of Luhrmann’s Gatsby on amphetamines! It moves so fast, its speed, along with the great cast and visuals, disguise a bit of fast and easy action with the plot. An elite organization, The Eye, mysteriously invites four very different magicians to compete for membership: Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), Merritt McKenny (Harrelson), Henley Reeves (Fisher) and Jack Wilder (Franco) who join forces to become The Four Horsemen.
Sponsored by investor Arthur Tressler (Caine) their Las Vegas supershow involves robbing the bank of an audience member, who is teleported to his bank – in Paris. This attracts FBI Agent Rhodes (Ruffalo), French Interpol Agent Vargas (Laurent), and magician turned trick revealer Bradley (Freeman) to trail their spectacular shows in New Orleans at Mardi Gras and finally New York City, always one step ahead of the authorities.
Now You See Me walloped Will Smith ‘s After Earth, the favorite in opening box-office sales. ( )
