Still enjoying their success together in the news business, Ron Burgundy (Ferrell) and his wife Veronica Corningstone (Applegate) anchor the news in New York City where they live the celebrity life with their son Walter. Ron is still hilariously socially incorrect with Veronica playing the straight man. The dynamic duo split when Veronica is offered a full time anchor position and Ron is fired. Ron gave Veronica an ultimatum – either she turns down the job or he leaves her. Veronica triumphantly makes the move to first female prime time anchor. A small man of his word, Ron returns to San Diego where the best he can do is find work screwing up as a host for animal shows at Sea World, until he is again fired.
Ron gets a break when executive producer Freddie Schapp (Baker) at Global News Network comes up with the crazy idea of a 24-hour news program. He wants Ron and his old news team which includes Champ, Brick and Brian to return to New York City. After road trip ridiculous from San Diego, the team is slotted for the graveyard shift but face a stupid challenge to win the prime time slot. The challenge becomes really absurd and the banality of this sequel, particularly as it attacks every kind of news broadcast, is a real disappointment after the enjoyably dumb Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004).
