Length: 89 minutes
Just married (to the tune of “Love me Tender”), Samantha (Miller) and Zach (Gilford) McCall take off for their honeymoon in Santo Domingo. On the last evening, they get into a taxi and allow the driver to take them to a new, unfamiliar nightclub. For some reason, they remember practically nothing the next day. They return to their home in New Orleans and set up house in a typical U.S. neighborhood – typical except for the house across the street. Formerly, owned by the Andersons, it has been empty and for sale for a long time. To their surprise Samantha is already pregnant, a happy event which Zach records on his movie camera. Slowly, they realize that something is strange about the pregnancy. For example, a vegetarian, Sam rips off the plastic from a container of hamburger meat at the super market and eats the meat raw. From there things go downhill quickly and Zach tries his best to record the events in order to make sense of his turbulent life. Strangers enter their lives: a doctor, a priest. Everyone anticipates the birth of the baby.
This scary movie is a bit of Rosemary’s Baby, a bit of Blair Witch Project and fine for a night in front of the TV. The actors are convincing, especially Zach Gilford. He carries the plot and your heart is with him until the end. Filmed on location in the Dominican Republic and New Orleans. ( )
