AWARDS 2017 - Hamburg Filmfest

Hamburgische Kulturstiftung and Ian und Barbara Karan Stiftung are funding the MICHEL Award at MICHEL Kinder und Jugend Filmfest, awarded since 2003. The award includes prize money of 5.000 Euro. A children's jury selects the best film in this section.

The Art Cinema Award was established by the Conféderation Internationale des Cinémas d'Art et d'Essai (C.I.C.A.E.; International Confederation of Art House Cinemas). Films that have a German distributor were nominated. The confederation's extensive network will support the distribution of the winning film throughout Europe. Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein contributes 5.000 Euro to the award in support of PR measures by the German distributor.

The NDR (Norddeutscher Rundfunk) has been sponsoring the NDR Young Talent Award since 2012. The competition is aimed at filmmakers showing their feature film debut or their second film at Filmfest Hamburg. It includes prize money of 5.000 Euro and replaces the award "Die Elfe" which has been awarded at Filmfest Hamburg every year since 2008.

Since 2015 the Commerzbank Publikumspreis honores the best film of the Section Eurovisuell with 5.000 Euro. The general public votes for the winning film.

Film critics and culture editors from German journals, online media, radio stations and newspapers form the jury for this award. The Critics’ Choice Award is the successor to the Hamburg Film Critic Award, which was first presented in 2004.

Since 2013, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung awards a prize at Filmfest Hamburg. Documentary and fiction feature films dealing with political subjects and social or environmental issues are competing for the prize money of 5,000 Euro. The prize is being awarded for best directing.
Award winner 2017 The Wait Director: Emil Langballe

The Hamburg Producers Award for European Cinema Co-Productions is awarded to films in the section Freihafen (Free Port) which feature German-European co-productions. The German co-producer of the winning film receives 25.000 Euro, which will be made available by the Hamburg Ministry of Culture (Behörde für Kultur und Medien). The foreign co-producer of the winning film receives Color Grading worth around 15.000 Euro from the Hamburg post-production company Optical Art.

The Hamburg Producers Award for German TV Productions is part of the TV section 16:9 at Filmfest Hamburg. The producer of the winning film receives 25.000 Euro. Since 2014 the award is sponsored by the VFF, Verwertungsgesellschaft der Film- und Fernsehproduzenten mbH.

For the first time, Filmfest Hamburg has honored directors working in countries across national and cultural borders with the Sichtwechsel Film Award, donated by the Federal Foreign Office. A total of up to twelve films were nominated from the across all sections. The prize of 10.000 Euro is awarded by an international jury.
