Mariano Donoso Makowski, Argentina
After about twenty years in the making, a railway line known as the Buenos Aires and Pacific Railway (BA&P) was finally in operation connecting Buenos Aires, Argentina and Valparaiso, Chile. Described as an essay, but more of an art collection, this film is made almost entirely in black and white. The director reveals the tracks, towns and villages, and people who lived and worked along the line providing a travel log of a train that changed the landscape and united the two countries. People and politics, past and present (with present highlighted in color), with one train line in common. An unusual compilation for those who have a sense of adventure. (MW)
