François (Frédéric Chau) is an Asian photographer living in Paris, who wants to put his past behind him, or so he thought until his girlfriend Sophie (Julie de Bona) tells him that she is pregnant. He now has to face his father whom he has not seen for 10 years. When his girlfriend insists that he tells his family about the baby, he heads to Chinatown and soon realizes what he has left behind.
This is the third film from director Julien Abraham who likes to explore intercultural relationships and exposes the difficulties when different traditions come together. This film is warm and sentimental but shows how two stubborn men—father and son—work hard not to be understanding with each other. If you are thinking that you will be seeing a typical Asian drama, you are quite wrong. This film feels like a French film made with Asian actors. They have the typical comic sidekick character and they even break into song now and again. This is not a film with any depth but is a fun film for the afternoon. (Shelly S.)
