Labelled as an Afro-futuristic science fiction and what the f’ck thriller, Spanish director Miguel Llansó’s film made its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal in July 2019 but never made it to the cinemas due to the pandemic. Using old computer video technology, cold war politics, and strange industrial locations, it creates a multi-dimensional espionage story where we see Stalin playing chess on a screen, CIA hero Agent D.T. Gagano (Miguel Tadesse) eating pizza while trying to track down a computer virus, his wife Malin (Gerda-Anette Allikas) trying to open a kick box studio, three Kung Fu masters who fight for the communists, monster flies, and many other crazy characters. The film plays with screens, televisions and old computers where they all want to track down the source of a strange green virus to either get rich, save the planet, or just find their way back home. The effect of using this technology makes us feel like we are playing a video game. The story is very complicated and should be seen more than once. The music jumps from techno high pitched sounds and then moves to a jazzy movement as the story progresses.
One could assume that Llansó is a fortuneteller writing a script about a global virus right before we were hit by the Covid 19 pandemic. Watching the credits, it is astonishing to see how many producers were involved in creating this movie. Furthermore, this movie was crowdfunded and involved various countries such as Ethiopia, Estonia, Spain, and Romania, and Latvia. The final question we are facing is what reality are we living in? 82min (
