You, your family, partner and friends are invited to a Walking Tour of Little Jerusalem!

Cost: €20.00
RSVP: Deadline May 10, 2019
Payment: Deadline May 10, 2019

We will trace the Jewish history in Grindel, Hamburg's university quarter, which was nicknamed "Little Jerusalem" about 150 years ago. The tour will take us to the historical sites of an almost invisible Jewish culture. We will discover magnificent houses that were once Jewish lodge houses; see a former synagogue, forgotten by the National Socialists because it was hidden in a courtyard; and we will come across numerous Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) that the Cologne artist Gunter Demnig has placed in the pavement of more than 300 German cities, thus creating the largest Jewish memorial project in Germany. The Grindel quarter—with its beautiful Art Nouveau villas; its memorials that mark the former synagogue and other Jewish sites; and the inviting cafés and shops that are still "kosher" today—revives a piece of Jewish culture that is anything but a dusty past.

The price for this event not only covers the cost of the 90-minute tour but also contributes to sponsoring a Stolperstein for Lea Heymann, neé Salomon, born February 2, 1886; deported November 8, 1941 to Minsk, where she did not survive. A granddaughter of Lea is now a resident of Sacramento, California. You will be invited to a commemorative dedication of this Stolperstein, scheduled for November, 2019.

The official AWCH no-show and cancellation policy will be in effect.

We hope that you can come!
