"Jazz and decolonization are entwined in this historical rollercoaster that rewrites the Cold War episode that led musicians Abbey Lincoln and Max Roach to crash the UN Security Council in protest against the murder of Patrice Lumumba."

Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, the film delves into the extraordinary events surrounding the assassination of Congolese Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba and the fight for African self-determination. Featuring perspectives from Central African Republic women’s rights activist Andrée Blouin, Irish diplomat Conor Cruise O’Brien, and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, this powerful narrative captures the collision of jazz and geopolitics. Iconic musicians like Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, and Dizzy Gillespie become unintentional players in a story of Cold War espionage, neo-colonialism, and resistance.
