Nerikomi is a Japanese ceramic technique that involves layering and manipulating colored clays to create intricate patterns and designs in pottery.

In this method, different colored clays are stacked, folded, sliced, or pressed together before being shaped into a final form, such as a bowl, vase, or plate. The process allows for stunning, marbled, or mosaic-like patterns that are visible both on the surface and throughout the body of the finished piece. Once the desired design is achieved, the clay is fired in a kiln to harden it into a durable ceramic object.

In this workshop we will use two colours to make a plate. It will look similar to the one in the pictures depending on the pattern and shape you make and the pigment we get. This one is a butterfly pattern.
This beginner level workshop is suitable for everyone, no prior experience needed. The finished pieces will take about four weeks to dry, be glazed and fired.
You do need to get an old tea towel for the workshop and an apron if you prefer using one. If you have one, please get a ruler too.
If you have quite long nails, that might make it difficult to work on your clay piece.

We will be doing this workshop at LFR. We will have some tea and water at the location.
