Harbor Explorers: Spicy's Spice Museum and Lieger Caesar

In the cold and chill of November we all need a spicy pick-me-up! Come join us in the Hafen City at Sandtorkai for a tour of Hamburg's unique spice museum, Spicy's. This is a small museum specialising in all kinds of spices: where they come from, how they are harvested, stored and processed, and how to use them. There are exotic types of peppers and curries and spices many of us have never heard of. 

Spicy's has a wonderful shop with a huge assortment of spices to purchase. A free little sack of pepper is included in the moderate entrance fee, 4 EUR.

We will spend an hour at the museum (you may stay longer if you want), then walk 4 minutes to our lunch location, a historic 'Lieger' on the water. A LIeger is a kind of houseboat that was used harborside as a specialised workshop for boats to moor on and use their services.

This Lieger was built in 1902 and was originally a welder's shop situated near the center of the Hambug harbor. It is newly renovated with a comfortable restaurant and shop. Cook Simon has a weekly menu with at least two vegetarian items. He used to work for Tim Mälzer at the Bullerei, and is now following his own claim to fame with this enterprise! There is a lot of fresh air, but Simon has promised to invest in a small heater for the interior.

We will monitor the ongoing Corona situation, socially distance at the museum and sit at several tables with plenty of room at the Lieger. Remember to bring your mask for interior areas.
