Awareness Evening and RaffleCatching the Rain for a Better Future: Our Project in IndiaMonday, October 26, 7:00 p.m.Please join us for a virtual awareness evening to learn about the Nandavan Trust, which the AWCH has supported since 2010. The primary aim of the Nandavan Trust, also known as the Integrated Tribal Watershed Development Programme (ITWDP), is to use watershed projects (“catching the rain”) for the ecological, economic and social transformation of desertified areas of Maharashtra, India—the home of many tribal communities. The organization seeks to establish a sustainable livelihood for the tribals, amongst the poorest people in the world, giving them a chance to live in dignity. The AWCH has given support to this organization since 2010, when a joint FAWCO club effort was established to support the development of the hamlet Paregaon Khurd. In 2012 our member Ulrike H. visited this hamlet and we have maintained close contact since then with Father Robert D’Costa, the director of Nandanvan, who informs us about the current projects and suggests new project proposals that we can support. AWCH has nominated Nandanvan for FAWCO Development Grants and three—an open well, a kindergarten building, and the planting of 1500 trees—have been awarded in three years! AWCH has also given support to smaller projects through our own fundraising. The evening will be a chance to hear Ulrike’s first-hand account of the people and their environment, see pictures of the various projects we have supported, and view the latest videos of the area now suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be time for questions, answers, and suggestions—and to see each other again! We will be raffling off an “Indian Dinner for Two” at the Ghandi Restaurant in Eppendorf, as well as several other prizes, so even if you cannot join us on the evening, you can participate by buying raffle tickets. All proceeds will be used to buy supplies for the kindergarten that was recently completed. Raffle tickets can be purchased (€2 each, or 3 for €5) at many of the upcoming events in October or write Carol H. (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) A maximum of 17 persons can attend, but the evening can also be attended via Zoom (meeting instructions will be sent to you by email). Note: due to Corona virus concerns and regulations, the evening will be virtual. Please indicate below if you will be attending: If you wish to attend by Zoom please press the YES button AND tick the box 'I will attend virtually' when you sign up. We hope you will join us!
