Details: American Women's Club of Amsterdam presents:Racial Injustice Through the Lens of WhitenessYou are cordially invited to join the AWCA for our final event of our year-long program to explore diversity, inclusion and racial injustice. During our time together for this 2-hour Workshop we will look at understanding racial inequities through the lens of whiteness. There is a culture to whiteness, and it is the driving force behind racial inequities, racial unrest, and racial violence. Whiteness is all around us and in this training, we'll dive into the culture of whiteness, stepping back so we can see the water we are swimming in. This Workshop will be interactive and will include reflection exercises. Cost: €20 Registration Details: Please register in advance by May 11th via Jotform. Zoom link provided upon payment. About the Facilitator:Makeda is a sought-after speaker, teacher, writer, workshop facilitator, Certified Life Coach and Change Strategist with over two decades of experience in leadership and personal development. Makeda inspires her audience with her laid-back style and warm, engaging personality. Her genius is holding space as people navigate change, specifically the space between what was and what is not yet. Change is hard and it is in that in-between where most people get stuck, overwhelmed, and/or retreat back to what is familiar, even if it is something they no longer desire. She supports people as they move through that in-between space so they can achieve what it is they truly want. Her ability to hold space for the in-between has proved beneficial for white women who want to step into the work of unlearning and seeing with new eyes, on their way to becoming anti-racist. She is convinced that until all of us are free, none of us are free and will gladly walk with anyone who is committed to the freedom of all. She believes the ocean is magic, chocolate makes everything better, and life should be filled with moments that make your heart sing. You can find her at www.makedapennycooke.com or on Instagram @makedapennycooke Reviews of Makeda’s Work: “Makeda has a powerful, yet gentle stage presence. She is warm, welcoming and calming but she also really engages with the audience. People were laughing, crying, and they walked away inspired and motivated. In one word, she was AWESOME!” - Miranda Dauphinee, She’s Brave Conference Founder and Organizer |
