Our next site is an easy bus ride to the Hafen City area of Sandtorkai:

We’ll begin at 12:00 with lunch at Lieger Caesar, a historic 'Lieger' on the water.

A LIeger is a kind of houseboat that was used as a specialized workshop for boats to moor onto and use their services. This Lieger was built in 1902 and was originally a welder's shop situated near the center
of the Hamburg harbor. It has indoor and outdoor tables and a shop.

After lunch it is a 4-minute walk to the spice museum in a historic storage house, Spicy’s. This is a small museum featuring all kinds of spices: where they come from, how they are harvested, stored and processed, and how to use them. There are exotic types of peppers and curries and spices many of us have never heard of. Spicy’s has an audioguide app which uses earphones, and in any case you may walk through at your own pace. There is a wonderful shop with an exotic assortment of spices to purchase. A free little sack of pepper is included in the moderate entrance fee.

Cost: 5 EUR (4 for retirees, students etc) at the museum, and whatever you eat and pay for yourself. Friends and family are welcome!

 More Information: Bus #6, Auf dem Sande or #111, Sandtorkai, and walk down (1 minute) to the water, crossing the little ponton bridge in Sandtorhafen. Look out for the yellow houseboat. Or walk from U3 Rödingsmarkt. No parking in the area.
