Book Exchange 2023 small copy

Join us for a fun afternoon of browsing through English books and sharing reading suggestions. Good quality, English-language books and DVDs will be available for purchase. All proceeds and donations will go to the Nandanvan Trust in Marharastra, India that AWCH has been supporting since 2011. Food and drinks will be provided.

The primary aim of the Nandanvan Trust is to restore the environmental infrastructure of the rural areas of Maharashtra, India—the home of many tribal communities—to increase agricultural productivity and to restore natural resources, both indispensable for escaping poverty. Nandanvan uses watershed projects toward this aim and couples this with promoting education, health and sanitation. Six FAWCO grants have been awarded to Nandanvan to plant cashew trees and to build an open well, a kindergarten, and a grain/seed storage building, and in 2022, to sponsor supplementary classes to keep tribal children in school.

Donations from this book sale will provide needed funds to provide nutritional snacks for the 60 children attending supplementary classes, as well as provide other needed supplies. The supplementary classes, which are financed by the "I Will Learn—Keeping Tribal Children in School" grant, will help tribal children learn basic skills of language, mathematics, information technology, and social education, motivating them to stay in school.  Education is an essential tool to break the poverty cycle in this area.

Take this opportunity to stock up on new books and to visit with other AWCH members. The event takes place in a member’s home in Winterhude. Come when you can, go when you want.

If you have books to donate, please contact Carol S (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or Diana S. (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) as soon as possible.  We prefer that books are donated before the event but it is possible to bring a small number of books directly to the event.

Don't have time to attend the event, but would like to donate to the project? You can send donations to AWCH, IBAN DE47 2005 0550 1502 5597 41, Re: Nandanvan.  All donations, big and small, are welcomed!
