All AWCH members are cordially invited to join the Book Club for their upcoming meeting.

We will be discussing My Brilliant Friend, the first of the Neapolitan Novels, a 4-part series by the Italian novelist Elena Ferrante, translated by Ann Goldstein. The series follows the lives of two perceptive and intelligent girls, Elena Greco and Raffaella (Lila) Cerullo. "My Brilliant Friend begins in the 1950s, in a poor but vibrant neighborhood on the outskirts of Naples. Growing up on these tough streets the two girls learn to rely on each other ahead of anyone or anything else … Through the lives of these two women, Ferrante tells the story of a neighborhood, a city, and a country as it is transformed in ways that, in turn, also transform the relationship between her protagonists, the unforgettable Elena and Lila." (Europa Editions, New York)

For our meeting on Wednesday, March 20 we will be reading The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. This novel, set in the American Deep South in the nineteenth century, is inspired by real events around slavery and the abolitionist and women's rights pioneer Sarah Grimké.

We hope you'll join us!
