Details: For our meeting on Wednesday, March 20 we will be reading The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. This novel, set in the American Deep South in the nineteenth century, is inspired by real events around slavery and the abolitionist and women's rights pioneer Sarah Grimké.
“The struggle of 19th-century abolitionist and women's rights pioneer Sarah Grimké is at the heart of Sue Monk Kidd's powerful new historical novel. Set – like her bestselling debut, The Secret Life of Bees – in the American deep south, where she grew up, The Invention of Wings unflinchingly depicts the brutality of slavery in vivid and meticulous detail” –The Gaurdian
