Join us at the Hamburger Kunsthalle to learn about William Blake (1757-1827), a fascinating English artist and poet. Blake’s mystical, visionary yet socially critical work has had lasting influence, for example, on graphic novels and fantasy art today. Our group will enjoy a private 1-hour tour in English.
With paintings, drawings and prints mainly from the collection of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, this exhibition explores Blake’s output in the context of the revolutions and spirituality of his time. A comparison with roughly contemporary German artists, including Caspar David Friedrich, will show how very different Romantic art could look. This tour will be a great follow up to our Friedrich tour in March.
